if thats intended thats kinda lame and cheap honestly i just assumed the todd phillips joker movies had no relation to the rest of the cinematic universe

... a new - proper - Joker that can better carry the weight of their expectations. a fully depersonalized icon they can project onto (eventual DCU Joker). the parallel between the audience of Joker 2 and the audience of the trial is almost too obvious 3/3

... refuse to accept that what they thought was an icon could be so disappointingly pathetic. they try to mold him (the character)/it (the movie) into their ideal/symbol but the flaws are too repulsive, incoherent, so they resign to throwing it all away to be replaced by 2/3

im somewhat shocked at the apparent lack of discourse around what to me is the main point of the film. "there is no joker" - countless people sat down to watch the Joker on screen but he never truly appears, the figurehead is missing, yet the public already engrossed in their worship 1/3
