makes magic

I think part of it is also privilege. Growing up the middle class got you far & I think there is still a lack of understanding how later generations start their lives off so far behind the 8-ball.

But I also think it's less about fiscal conservatism. Perhaps a lot are more racist than we thought.

Given how many people who seem to be completely unaware of what Trump has said, or what any of his minions has said, tells me that their use of the internet is limited to their bubble which is heavily filtered and distorted at best.

Well said. The fact that NPR is not seen as fair and balanced is because how far the right this country has been pulled. As Colbert famously said on the Colbert Report, "Reality has a liberal bias" from the perspective of today's conservatives.

It's also the case. those who get away with crimes like pedophilia rely on status in the community to hide those acts. Sometimes status is about power or a position of respect, or both. Judges, clergy, Law enforcement, popularity and fame. Anything that puts up a good front for the world at large.

Why must we appease Christians who might find transgenderism offensive to their beliefs and/or morality, but if Native Americans are offended by medals of honor given to soldiers who committed the Wounded Knee massacre, their offense doesn't matter? Very true. And in the end, such attempts at redefining art never really work. Science can be controlled more than art. Art can exist in a myriad of mediums at very little cost. It will always fight back against conformity and norms.

It is almost a guarantee that any group of people demanding automatic respect and voicing the moral virtues the loudest, particularly through the lens of patriotism and religion, are mostly likely to be putting up a front for some darkly immoral behavior within.
