Then when I jettisoned conservatism I had a big “now what” moment. TNH was a big influence on me then, too, as well as various progressive/ universalist Christians.

My first therapist had to convince me that trying meds or mindfulness wouldn’t send me to hell because I didn’t trust God with my anxiety.

Funny enough new atheism probably helped me a lot in leaving that belief system because it let me keep some of my conservative beliefs.

My flavor of hateful Christian was a mix of southern baptist and wesleyan and just deeply concerned with sex, public prayer, and hell. I bought into the whole thing pretty fully until later in college.
