Maybe they heard 'quantum tunneling' and thought it was a new type of road infrastructure that allowed two or more cars to exist in the same space at the same time...

It's not the car manufacturers that go after stuff like this. They don't have anything to worry about, it's not going to disrupt 99.999% of the short trips that personal automobiles are used for. It's the airlines. That's why Air Canada got itself involved.

This is the second time the S-Cargo has popped up in my various feeds recently... Stumbled across the Aging Wheels channel on YouTube recently, and he covered it awhile ago. (Fun channel for exploring quirky small vehicles and EVs) youtu.be/MLe6fmslDj4?...

Entirely understandable. I don't think either of our countries has a stellar recent record. The RCN does seem to be turning that around now, though, and has given some reason for a bit of optimism. There are big, positive, changes afoot for the army and RCAF, too, if they can actually follow through

All the major Canadian yards are booked with projects for the foreseeable future, and major expansions take years of planning and construction on their own.

They were given a major mid-life refit a few years back with the goal of keeping them relevant and in service through the 2030s. The Rivers started a bit late, so, yes, there's a bit if a gap, but not as bad as it seems, and it'll likely be possible to extend that until fully replaced.

The Canadian Continental Defence Corvette program is in the early definition phase, but it's already grown from being a MCDV replacement to a full surface combatant with capabilities on par with the Halifax-class. See screenshot. (Source: canadiandefencereview.com/vice-admiral...)

You really can't expect the sub program to go faster than it already is. The Koreans are already offering a delivery schedule that blows any western option away (assuming they're selected). It's not the kind of thing you can just throw more money at to make it go away.

Once again, please read the actual budget, not something published in June, based on the previous year's Fall Economic Statement.
December 9, 2025 at 2:52 AM
Again, please go and read what's actually in the budget... You keep ignoring that for numbers that were published before the budget. I've given you a link to the actual document and screenshots from it, which provides projected funding out to 2030. Actually, because you're unlikely to do that...
December 9, 2025 at 2:51 AM
The numbers that provide funding for planning and initial development through 2030, yep, did that. Again, do you have any realistic idea how long it takes to plan something of this scale when we've never done it before? It really sounds like you don't.
December 9, 2025 at 2:32 AM
You don't just snap your fingers and make it happen with wishful thinking. 'Faster' doesn't mean 'instantly'. C'mon, man, look at what you're doing. You're picking a fight because you want so badly to be right and ignoring reality and common sense. This is twitter shit.
December 9, 2025 at 2:29 AM
Sure, when you have a finalized plan and construction contracts. We're still in the planning stages. You know these things take years, right? Especially when you've never done something like this before. Do you expect them to fully pay for a route they don't even have finalized yet?
December 9, 2025 at 2:00 AM
Did you read the actual budget? Funding for planning and initial contracts is there. You seem to be expecting full funding for a plan that hasn't been completed. You understand why you can't pay for something when you don't know how much it's going to cost yet, no?

Yeah, lots of valid things to complain about there, so lets stick to what has actually been said and done. Facts, nuance, rational arguments, all that noise. HSR is still budgeted for, and the intention is to fast track it. And that would be a win-win for environment and economy. No reason not to.
December 9, 2025 at 1:31 AM
They already are. The RCN is already set to expand to its largest size since before the end of the cold war with a greater than 1:1 replacement for the Halifax class, a 2-3:1 replacement for the subs, and a whole new class of large corvettes/light frigates which could range from 8-20.
December 9, 2025 at 1:21 AM
Nope easy to find and with its own section. Maybe go read it...
December 9, 2025 at 1:18 AM
...It was in the budget. It's being given more money to get fast tracked. No pun intended.

There are also studies showing links to a reduced risk of dementia, and/or a reduction in dementia symptoms associated with the shingles vaccine. That seems like reason enough alone to bear any side effects.

T-50s are a fairly strong contender for the lead in fighter trainer replacement. There's some speculation that they could be used to sweeten the F-35 deal through the LockMart partnership.
December 8, 2025 at 6:56 PM
At least we're being smart enough to already be poking around GCAP for the next gen stuff. Not early enough to get in as part of the core group, but still a pleasant amount of forethought if we actually follow through.

French Rafales are the only way to avoid any US involvement, but they're expensive and France is highly protective of its domestic industries, so our usual tactic of trying to wring out as much economic benefit as possible is out. We're stuck with comprises whichever way we go.

...Apologies for the spam. Defence procurement is a side-interest and something I have fun talking about.

...(kinda, Davie bought a major shipyard in Helsinki, so some of our ships will be partially built there).
* Irving is and will be at capacity for the foreseeable future, so the future Canadian Defence Corvettes will likely have to go elsewhere
** Rebranded, slightly more capable Type 26 frigates
