Used to work at the head office of a clothing company. If a t-shirt costs $15 to make, the entire manufacturing cost of that (materials, labour, transport from the Bangladeshi sweatshops to North America) is $2-$5, which is NUTS.

TBH I think this is just a soft layoff. Some people will just quit, which serves their goals of cutting the public service, plus you don’t have to give them a package. It’s win-win for them. This is what “running the gov like a business” looks like in practice
