Space no longer feels like the era of “peaceful uses.”

At UNIDIR’s #OS25 we tackled lunar risks, commercial pressures, youth voices, and unpredictability in orbit.

I’m still holding onto optimism. Diplomacy can move us forward.

China's new (?) HQ-29 missile is being touted as an ASAT weapon but what I'm seeing is that it's said to be able to do an exoatmospheric MD intercept which would give it DA-ASAT capabilities. I don't know that it's even been tested though

Penned down my thoughts on the UK Space Agency reorganisation and how it ultimately doesn’t matter whilst top level political leadership at UK Government (Con and Lab) is largely absent and there’s no real overarching strategic direction. BBC News headline was misleading, caused a bit of mayhem!
The UK Space Agency has been absorbed into the science department. The potential effects are still unclear
The agency has been the subject of some criticism and some aspects of the new arrangement could be positive.

In any case, this may just be the start of a commercialization wave of NASA (and NOAA) assets and functions
NASA's recent call for universities and companies to potentially take over the cost of maintaining the OCO instrument attached to the International Space Station suggests the agency is also considering privatizing NASA science missions. Such partnerships raise a host of thorny questions, says Michalak, who has worked with private companies, nonprofit groups, universities and the federal government on greenhouse gas monitoring satellite projects.

"On the one hand the private sector is really starting to have a role," Michalak says. In recent years, multiple private groups in the U.S. have launched satellites that measure methane, a potent planet-warming gas that is poorly monitored compared to carbon dioxide.
