We've found it in over 95% percent of the blood samples analyzed at my lab. It's incredibly prevalent

My lab is working with the Mayo clinic and a few others to see if we can find a similar correlation with other systems. The one clear takeaway from this study is that we've got a lot of work to do.

My lab has the largest dataset on microplastics in human blood. I can safely answer this with a no, unfortunately.

Ayyyy my company developed the kit used in a lot of these studies.
While the problem is massive in scale, it's important to remember that there is a lot you can do to prevent them from getting into your body, many of which are inexpensive.

We also did a small study on this, and our results are virtually identical. Big Problem.

🤓 I know you're joking, but Styrofoam is ackchually a foam made of microplastics known as polystyrenes.

Over 97% of people that had their blood tested at my lab are positive for microplastics. Over 10% have 75 particles/ml.
So, "very"
To answer your question.

My company is fairly small, and we already have the largest set of data on microplastics in human blood. Why is nobody else caring about this?

You're exactly right on the plastic being the concern. We are setting up testing to see how much actually winds up in the bloodstream of the consumer. This should be published by the end of 2025.

It just adds another layer of annoyance to every standard operating procedure.
All pipettes must be glass.
All shipping material must be paper
All printed media cannot contain toner.
You can't use LCMS at all (the easiest machine for automated testing, but all tubing and components are plastic)

Ayyyyy I'm Google AI famous 🤣🤣🤣

Now that my partners and I are the proud owners of the largest data set of microplastics in humans, we can start working on good solutions!

When I invented the test kit for microplastics in blood last year, it started a long scary journey for many in the convenient. It was refreshing to read something with a bit of humor on this subject.
