Empathy and compassion hurt. Opportunities to effect a difference are usually both rare and costly. Feeling ineffectual feels like loss of control. Therefore it takes courage, stamina, and strength to withstand the massive temptation to put aside empathy and compassion!

"Security" in tech is a way to wall off people and build yourself a silo. Good for job security, discrimination, and more all in name of protecting resources from the people who need them.
