If you or your clients have received a first-action allowance since March'25, be sure to scrutinize the Hell out of the allowed claims to make sure they will likely be enforceable before paying the issue fee.

Trump's administration has gutted hiring, training, and quality at the USPTO, including a program meant to address pendency backlog concerns by highly awarding first-action allowances and taking away direct quality requirements for those actions - likely resulting in low-value patents.

Patents are valuable based on their scope and validity. Only properly and continually trained examiners held to reasonably examination quality standards can reliably get a worthy application to a valuable patent.

Very few patent examiners have clearance to examine patent applications related to national security (~0.01% of 10k patent examiners), and they usually end up mostly examining normal patent applications. Gutting POPA for that is like using a bazooka to kill a fly.
