Aphorism: A concise expression of a general truth or principle; a statement or saying that is both efficiently presented and either witty or wise, like Oscar Wilde’s ‘Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast’ 😃

I particularly detest quotes which tell you what you should do, or ought to do, or how to become a “better” person. I much prefer aphorisms. And here is a perfect example of one:
'An aphorism is . . .a little work of art and complete in itself like a hedgehog' Friedrich Schlegel
