I’m a cis hetero septuagenarian man who underwent a mastectomy two years ago. As I was being prepped for surgery, a nurse who was a trans man, comforted me and my wife — he lifted the top of his scrubs revealing the scars of a bilateral mastectomy. It was the most generous gesture I’ve ever seen.

During that time I was given a brain scan (head injury), an electrocardiogram, and had the wound cleaned and glued shut (!) by an emergency room physician.

The bill came to 227 euros, about $265

So yeah, bub, tell me about the costs of medical procedures.

Last spring I had a fall crossing a street in Narbonne and opened up a nasty cut over my eye. Because I was bleeding copiously, the paramedics (pompiers) were called, and I was driven to an emergency room in an ambulance. I was in the hospital for about 5 and a half hours. (1)
