A favourite project from 2025.
Whitehall Landing on the Esk Estuary. A smooth concrete surface offering nothing much for marine life. Sitting at the heart of a new waterfront community it became a chance to rethink what coastal infrastructure can do.

Five ecoengineering wildlife occupancy types. They follow a simple gradient, from short visits through to permanent residence. The aim is to make sure our crafted interventions offer the right resources for every need and lifecycle stage across the five occupancy types we’ve identified.

First field test of an Artecology CoCreate Vertipool (artificial rock pool) made entirely with community engagement CoCreate methods. No special moulds, and widely available materials in this case Vicat Natural Cement based concrete and clay.
Now we wait for the first tide to claim it as its own!!
