there was a huge mobilisation against the pension reform last year, but Macron chose to ignore it. There society has built a lot of anger and resentment.. which of course benefits the far right as an outlet.. unless the left can pierce through the corporate media wall...

Since the yellow vests, a lot of people started to fear getting injuries and mutilations in demonstrations.. New laws, officially drawn against terrorism, are also used to legally persecute participants, which also has a strong dissuasive effect..

Demonstrations are only effective inasmuch as it holds a credible threat. In France, demonstrations worked so long as the gov still had some respect/fear towards the people. Then they bought more police equipment, passed repressive laws, and reversed the power struggle. Now we feel threatened.

Main reason imo is the pervasive darwinian individualistic mindset that you must work hard and that protesters are whining losers while you're a real man because you achieve things all by yourself... They believe they're "temporarily broke billionairs" who have no time for whining. Also wasp ethics
