The expelled Iron Hands formed into warbands which continued to fight under the banner of the Imperium as Iron Hands but continued their worship, even after Moirae was destroyed by the Cult of Mars. After being judged and deemed loyal by the High Lords of Terra, they were formed into a new chapter.

During the Schism, the Iron Hands split into two camps, the Marsian Purists, keeping to the original doctrine of Mars, and the Moirae Radicals who followed this new creed. This led to a purge of the Iron Hands alongside banishment for many of its astartes.

The Sons of Medusa are a successor chapter of the Iron Hands. During an event known as the 'Moirae Schism', a very interesting chapter of Imperial history when the entire Mechanicus nearly went into a full-scale civill war, the Iron Hands Chapter were affected by a new religeous ideal.
