Woo-Hoo! Some actual good news!

Arena Stage in DC has an updated version of Damn Yankees running now. "Updated" to happening in 2000, so it's Orioles vs. Yankees. That song is still in there, of course!

My career. Without social media I would have stayed in a relatively small local market. Instead, I made it to my firm's national office and the top of my profession.

I also met a lot of fun baseball people online and then met them in real life.

Both great things.

Hmm. Thanks for posting this. Apparently I've lived in the same regions you have--although the odds are that we didn't live in the same numbered zones!

My flowers are liking this weather. See alt text for names.
Flowers: orange coxcomb celosia in the center, yellow and orange lantanas in the back, a few purple celosia peeking in on the left side, and some purple succulent with pink flowers on stalks. Got the succulent at a garage sale years ago so have no idea what it is.

IMHO as a collector, it was game-used, as it was handled by an umpire and a player during a game. Of course, the real determination is made by the authenticator--who probably threw that in the "never mind, use it for practice" bucket rather than decide!

Thanks, as always, for doing this!

I recall a bankruptcy case where the judge admonished counsel for showing up in beach attire (it was Florida, and he was on the way to the beach after the case). Among the bankruptcy professionals, the Hawaiians said "what's the problem? We do that all the time!"

It's only two challenges if you get both wrong. If you get it right, you can keep going indefinitely . . . certain umpires come to mind.

Ah, yes, the man who nearly hit himself with a wild pitch. (It bounced off the stone wall behind home plate, making it back to the mound).

Truer words were never spoken: "it [this team] just needs a bunch of competent big leaguers".

I'd be down for that!

Not quite Satchel Paige level of persistence and durability, but he did pitch through January 2024 in the Mexican and Dominican Leagues (with cap askew, of course). 24-year career!

We bought one of these two-decker scratcher beds. As you can see, Clancy and Lucy (top) have approved. For comparison, Clancy is 15 pounds, Lucy about 13.
Two orange tabby cats in a two-level cardboard scratcher. The top and bottom "shelves" are made of corrugated cardboard that has been curled up, and then gently depressed in the center to make a saucer shape. The top one is supported by four corrugated cardboard legs. In the top one is a light orange tabby with her head hanging over the side a bit. In the bottom is a darker orange tabby with green eyes, looking right at the camera. A wooden stack roller cat toy is visible at the bottom left.

And if I had some, I'd certainly share it!

Cut unpeeled tomatoes in half across their equator. Place on parchment paper on cookie sheet. Rub with olive oil. Bake at 200 degrees for 6 (small Romas) to 12 (big slicers) hours until they've flattened out. Slide the tomatoes & paper into a Ziplock and freeze. Grab as needed for chili, soup, etc.

Also, if you have leftover tomatoes, I've been quite happy with the results of "12-hour tomatoes" (although they don't always take 12 hours--doing the big Romas today only took six hours in the toaster oven). Let me know if you're interested--it's sort of "oven-dried" tomatoes that freeze well.

Try sauteing one or two, along with a de-seeded tomato, and adding an egg to the veggies (and a green onion, shallot, or similar). That will give you a sense of how hot the jalapeños are after cooking.

MLB tried "full ABS" in the partner Atlantic League and got rid of it. So it's not on the agenda anytime soon.
arvafan55.bsky.social
I've seen the planned ABS Challenge system in the minor leagues and spring training, and it seemed to work pretty well IMHO. It is much quicker than replay challenges that we're familiar with in the majors.
The fun side effect is that now we'll know for real how tall players are (or aren't).

Got mine today, thanks for the warning (didn't schedule anything for tomorrow).

Squashed one in a Metro car today. Probably should have been arrested as a fare evader, but the foot was faster!

Aaaannnndd my cats are definitely staying put!
Large orange tabby cat with his head in a grey-striped slipper, pushing it across a hardwood floor. A white cabinet and a patterned rug are also visible.

Seems unlikely (at least game-based). 1-for-5 against Sale--a double back in 2023.
arvafan55.bsky.social
In the case of the Nats, those paragons of ineptitude, I think it's just bad pitching.

Sale? Maybe he's tired from that 3rd inning "longer than a rain delay" while his team batted around, a player broke his hamate bone, and a manager ejected.
