You've heard of #methane super-emitters at oil and gas facilities.

But have you heard of super-emitting LNG supply chains?

Our latest work uses satellite data on 12 LNG exporting countries to assess their GHG intensity.

Trump sent a 'compact' to our universities. They should reject this devil's bargain.

The solution to protect Americans from the harms of protectionism is to get rid of protectionist policies that drive up prices, reduces economic growth, and results in job losses!

Yet another handout is not the answer. We just want a government that’s not stupid or evil.

Nope, Energy Sec'y Wright, offshore winds in fact blow in winter. 1st year of operational data from NY's South Fork Wind project shows a 47% capacity factor in the year ending June 2025, with performance highest in the winter. Coal's avg capacity factor: 42%.
Wright says it’s not windy in winter. Data says otherwise.
Stats from South Fork Wind's first year undermine the Energy secretary's assertions that offshore turbines don't operate well in the winter.

China shows what energy dominance might look like. Not only does China export more clean tech than US does fossil fuels, Chinese exports are (i) accelerating, and (ii) highly diversified across products & destinations.

This is a major warning sign for the US!

my takeaway from climate week nyc is that "climate storytelling" is a little too much "we must reimagine our deepest souls in relationship to mother nature and the moral abyss of the polycrisis into which we must now stare" and not enough "ok but get a heat pump"

How much of this is really driven by people not having ever experienced living in walkable communities?

The only rural places that are "dense" are often near big tourist centers and that can get unpleasant.

I am somewhat surprised by group that emphasize community & family but prefer sparse areas.

A majority of Americans (57%) say they would prefer to live in a community where “houses are larger and farther apart, but schools, stores and restaurants are several miles away,” according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted March 27-April 2, 2023. About four-in-ten (42%) would prefer a community where “houses are smaller and closer to each other, but schools, stores and restaurants are within walking distance.”

I doubt China is doing this for climate. But,

1) Clean energy is surging; they want to be the world’s supplier.
2) China is electrifying end uses fast to reduce import dependence
3) Ambition to lead the world in new clean tech and well on its way penetrating SE Asian and African markets.

That's what we showed in our latest paper: carbon is as much a risk management issue as it is a climate issue. Some LNG supply chains are at high-risk of being major carbon liabilities.

I didn't say Democrats. I only said next admin. I agree repair will take a long time, but it must start with accountability. For far too long, both parties have been complicit in elite impunity - "everyone must obey the law" never really applied to everyone.
arvindpawan1.bsky.social
It is *much* more important to marginally increase the rate at which clean energy replaces coal/gas globally (China is doing this fast!) than to create an innovative solution for zero-carbon aviation or zero-carbon fertilizer.

Like - not even close.

Yet, media focus is often on novel solutions.

idk if you've seen this south korean editorial that ran a few days ago. google translate version scorched my eyebrows www.hani.co.kr/arti/opinion...
Maga is fundamentally a populist white racism.
The slogan "Make America Great Again" is more accurately described as "Make White
America Greater." The fact that the tariff policy insisted on a 50% tariff only on steel and aluminum stems from the concentration of these groups in the Rust Belt. The massive crackdown on illegal immigrants at the Hyundai-LG Energy Solutions joint venture plant in Georgia must be understood in this context. The scenes of our workers being chained and escorted away were reminiscent of the dragging of African slaves in the 18th and 19th centuries. The
Department of Homeland Security boasted of
"the largest single-site raid in history," and Immigration and Customs Enforcement even brazenly released footage of the raid, which was highly violating human rights, as if to boast of their "achievement." Far-right whites may have secretly rejoiced.
Even politicians like the Georgia governor and local lawmakers, who had been active in attracting factories, have shifted their stance and sympathized with their grievances. This is likely because it's difficult to ignore the anti-immigrant sentiment of native Americans. Like the McCarthyism that swept through American society in the 1950s, irrational madness dominates American society. The recent visa issue, which could have been resolved diplomatically with advance notice from an ally, is difficult to explain beyond political maneuvering. The fact that they mobilized helicopters and armored vehicles for show, as if they had been caught, is difficult to explain.
arvindpawan1.bsky.social
That's a $9 billion loss to US defense industry. Korea is re-thinking all US manufacturing investments.

When you arbitrarily cancel near-complete projects & take ownership of companies, nobody will want to do business with you.

Is anyone keeping a tally on the economic damage from this admin?

1. By 2030, the use of air conditioning will lead to greater increase in electricity demand than data centers. And it's not even close!

Highly unlikely. While there are uncertainties in individual methane sources, the global budget is fairly well constrained. Overall, methane is <20% of all GHGs and unless we reduce CO2 by >80% by 2035, CO2 will continue to dominate. Also, at constant emissions, warming from methane is constant.
