If anything it is *even harder* to get hired as a military historian working on Africa or Asia, or on the role of women in conflict. I know folks working on those topics.

Military history enrolls very well, but there is a cultural bias against it among many historians, but it is not a 'DEI thing.'

Having zero familiarity with the debates or personalities mentioned, I'm sending that "unionist" in that phrase "unionist pro-devolutionists" is doing a lot of work.

It helped that both leaders had seen war firsthand and (from how they talked and wrote during the crisis) were influenced by that experience to be risk averse.

Putin has not, as far as I know.

Also, even if they don't beat Poland they can cause a lot of damage while losing.

It worked quite well for the winners before about 1800! Rome got famously rich by being better at murder than everyone around!

It's just that the Industrial Revolution changed the calculus.

"Non-Zionist" is how I describe Israeli ultra-Orthodox (especially Ashkenazi) society. Does that also work for Chabad?

Lots of Ukrainians switched from speaking Russian to speaking Ukrainian after 2022 (Zelensky among them!).

Doesn't seem to have stopped Russia :-/
