protagonists I like her least but her physical journey is very interesting. She and her group is the first to go to fantastic places.
I do get why people like this book and at the end I was so excited about stuff, that the audiobook felt too slow. Maybe the bookstore later has volume two, lol.

probably one of the strongest characters around and stuff happens to bring her on the war path, a one-person army at times, and she is A WOMAN. Love her.
Varg has a more typical hero story but I also liked it, and I want to know about his sister. Plus the twist!

The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne

The last chapters of this were amazing.
I was lured by the cover because I have a weakness for giant monstrous beings next to tiny humans. Also: Dragons.

But the body horror part is great. While the writing feels a bit too detached when it comes to the characters and mysteriousness of it all, it's great for the horror. I liked that a lot and I learned many new words I've never heard of before.

I did like the diversity though.
It's marketed as horror + dark academia and it is most definitely body horror but not dark academia. They're barricaded inside a library but nothing really academic happens. (Gracelynn and Kevin seem to find info but that's it.)
