and like, remember when that ai darth vader thing was put into fortnite and started spouting slurs basically immediately? imagine a world where that happened in the parks.

i don't doubt for a second that if the living characters initiative was still going on in full force today that disney would want to shoehorn llms into god knows what in the parks.

really makes you think of the value, or lack thereof, of replacing humans with machines in social or conversational settings

it just feels so weird to see all of the steps taken towards this exact (awful) solution, and then it all comes tumbling down.

so much of the initiative seemed hellbent at coercing a machine to replicate a human in a conversational setting. and now, in many ways divorced from their efforts, we live in a world where it's not only possible, but also a huge problem on multiple scales that i wish we didn't have to deal with.

for all the experiments disney did with natual language processing and related technologies, it seems like there was one, *one*, that was llm-powered (the droid assistant on the starcruiser), and it was locked behind a great number of gates that would limit access.
