I don't think there was much that was accidental about it. The dwarves may not have been intended to specifically allude to trans people, but (repressive) social norms in general, but the dwarves were always about personal identity and how outward appearances are irrelevant. I mean, look at Carrot.

I don't know who needs to read this, but: No data that is irreplaceable and/or would hurt to be lost (emotionally, financially or otherwise) should ever exist only in one place, much less on a mobile device (be it notebook, tablet or phone). And I would suggest always wiping before a repair.
