They have never, AFAIK, campaigned on it. That shouldn't mean they run away from it though when it comes time to create or vote for or against legislation.

It's not just a check for deception. You are also checking because you're opponent can't have that strong of a hand because you're blocking Qs (especially if you were the preflop raiser so he likely doesn't have KK/AA). So they now have to bluff to try to win

Much of poker lingo is based in "boys game in college." Best case is this or calling AK "Anna kornikova because it looks good and rarely wins." Worse is the jokes the old guy at the table tells to the female dealers and players that nobody even blinks an eye at or says anything about.
