I did not deliberately time my viewing to watch this episode of The Man in the High Castle, tonight, but watching the Statue of Liberty get bombed while spec-fic-Himmler intones “at long last, her light goes out,” and youths chant “blood and soil” in the streets… sure feels alarmingly timely.

How it started vs. how it’s going.

(The tall ones are about to get buried some more, so they won’t stay looking this impressive, but—for now!)
A relatively small, spindly tomato seedling, with two small branching stalks, and one very tiny one, just starting to grow. The same tomato plant as in the previous image, now vigorous and bushy, about twice as tall, and with too many leafy stalks to easily count.

I was also delighted by this tiny velociraptor.

…and these are some of my entirely sincere favorites.
A hand-carved, articulated miniature wooden skeleton cavorts inside a glass vessel. A fingertip held near the glass for scale makes it clear that the entire skeleton is only perhaps two and a half inches tall. Several shelves of Rainbow Brite toys and memorabilia are displayed together. These include an extensive range of dolls and plushes, as well as books, teaching aids, drinking vessels, a Viewmaster, a toy telephone, and a rather alarming-looking mask with eye-holes placed in its forehead. Adjacent to other miniature furnishings, what was once a full-sized violin hangs. Its interior has been remade into a miniature luthier’s workshop, complete with a workbench and tools, and numerous instruments in various states of completion. We made a last-minute trip to KC this weekend, and made a stop at the Toy & Miniature Museum. These are my creepiest faves…
In an otherwise pleasant and realistic dollhouse scene, where an elderly white woman dozes in a chair, embroidery forgotten in her lap, a large and bizarrely proportioned cat with large, staring eyes is precariously balanced on an adjacent dollhouse chair. Surrounded by examples of period-specific doll clothing, an otherwise typically-proportioned, white-coded antique doll stares out at the viewer from large, gleaming eyes that are entirely black, and a head and neck that are proportioned as if for a baby, though its features are plainly those of an adult. The overall effect—which, given its age, is unintentional—is of the bug-eyed and grey-skinned aliens common in abduction narratives. A chubby-cheeked, red-haired, white-coded doll wearing a top-hat, elaborate coat, and cravat, and wielding a doll-sized walking stick, stares out at the viewer—it resembles an unusually formal iteration of the horror antagonist, Chucky. Among a small collection of miniature ceramic vessels and toy animals, a stylized black and white striped cat stands out. Its eyes and mouth are all empty holes, opening into the impenetrable darkness of its hollow body.
