ESOPs Can Create Wealth. They Can Also Lock You In.

Vesting schedules are designed for retention.

That is their legal purpose.

A typical ESOP vests over four years with a one-year cliff.

Leave early, and unvested options disappear.

In college, ESOPs sound like guaranteed upside. Stories of IPO millionaires make it seem like equity automatically means wealth. What doesn't get discussed: the legal and tax structure that turns paper gains into real liabilities before you see a single rupee.

AI models are trained to predict what comes next, not what's true. Feed them conspiracy theories, and they'll spin elaborate narratives. Ask for confirmation of your biases, and they'll deliver with scientific-sounding authority.
