It’s fun to joke about, but the courtship that crosses vast ocean basins to bring two turtles together after decades of solitude is one of the most profound love stories in the world.

Antarctic krill fishing starves blue whales while drowning humpbacks. It burns four times the biomass it extracts in fossil fuel.

You might think of krill oil supplements, but the primary demand for this fishery is fish and shrimp farms.

‘Krill are the foundation of the Antarctic ecosystem and targeting them must be banned. Antarctica should be a permanent refuge for wildlife, not a plunder zone for industrial supertrawlers,’

If you want to boycott industries associated with the Trump administration, stop buying tuna.

The tuna industry is the central lobby behind the decision to sell Pacific Islands Heritage National Monument for commercial fishing.

Tuna should have the same reputation as Tesla.

This is a great book if you want to feel retroactive rage at English colonists, fur traders, market hunters, mountain men, feather-hat milliners, bison killers, wolf poisoners, trigger-happy naturalists, passenger-pigeon shooters, and American history generally. I’m pretty pissed at the Clovis too.

80% of US bees have not died.

Colony losses in commercial bee farming, typically ~50%, are ~80% this year.

2024 saw record high colony & farm counts, up 160% since 2007.

You should be more concerned about long-term collapse of native pollinators, *driven in part* by farming non-native honeybees.
Hundreds of millions of bees, almost 80% of bees in the US, have died over he past eight months. Researchers don't know why.

Here is what this means:

I’m an environmentalist no matter who is in office.

I realize there is more silence from the media and from many environmentalists when a “progressive” politician is in office, but we are in an ecological crisis + climate crisis, and these polluting industries keep expanding.

Sheinbaums new LNG projects and the construction of the gas infrastructure increases Mexico's dependence on the U.S. and are obviously terrible for the environment. These are the same LNG projects that harm Gulf Coast communities in the U.S. Many deaths and illnesses are directly attributed to them

The U.S. Forest Service is under the jurisdiction of the USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture.)
Why? Because they view forests as commodities to harvest for profit. This isn’t anything new...
