This new law helps students and school staff impacted by wildfires by:
✅ Allowing school employees to transfer catastrophic leave to colleagues in need
✅ Requiring the state to track displaced students to ensure continued education

Yesterday, my office hosted our annual Julian Katz Memorial Bike Ride down the Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach strand in honor of Julian Katz, a passionate cycling advocate in the South Bay who unfortunately passed in 2018.

I joined elected officials, the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce, faith and local leaders to call on getting ICE out of Terminal Island and out of LA.

Terminal Island was once home to a fishing village where 3K Japanese were forcibly removed by the government in 1942 following EO 9066.

President Trump recently signed his big billionaire tax break, gutting Medicaid and defunding Planned Parenthood. This means that Planned Parenthood in CA can no longer receive federal reimbursement for women's health services.

I will continue to fight for Planned Parenthood and their patients.

My AB 477, the Fair Pay for Educator Workforce Act, passed the Senate Education Committee! It is now going to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

This bill would give teachers and school staff a raise by setting a higher local control funding formula (LCFF) target over 10 years.

AB 1128, the California Student Teacher Pay Act, passed the Assembly Floor this week.

The bill would establish the California Student Teacher Support Grant Program that would allow compensation for teachers during their student teaching hours as part of their teacher preparation programs.

All children have a constitutional right to attend public schools, regardless of immigration status.

Happy Pride Month! The month celebrates the effect that the LGBTQIA community has had on history in the U.S. and worldwide.

June was chosen as Pride Month to remember protests by members of the LGBTQ+ community in New York City on June 28, 1969, in response to a police raid at the Stonewall Inn.
