It's not actually a mystery is it? It's a project that despises curiosity, difference, intellectual inquiry, humanity, complexity, difficulty, compassion, soul - and exalts crude and charmless displays of wealth and power. It is tacky, hateful, boorish and stupid - of course it makes shit art lol

Few people write about popular culture as well as Chal Ravens. This is a tough read, but it is journalism of the highest quality.
‘Her Southern manners and goofy humour made her physical beauty seem just about attainable, and her teenage body was the object of collective desire.’

It does feel to me like “Why is Britain facilitating a genocide that’s being imposed by a child sex criminal, just because he’s America’s emperor” is going to be problematic, historically.

Perhaps, one day, schoolkids will study this squalid little chapter in British terror-panic history. When they do, I hope these two headlines from today are printed side by side, with clear annotation of which individual faced more outrage and condemnation.

@finalwordcricket.bsky.social Geoff - not much a of a social media poster but your recent Guardian pieces have been a joy to read. The pod is also great - props as ever to you and AC. Keep it up, fellas.

If you're going insist that certain groups are going to have to accept a "reduction in their rights" then you're going to have accept the reaction you get to that may not necessarily come in the form of polite letter writing and debate.

Another excellent piece. The generosity, cynicism, and greed of modern Britain perfectly encapsulated.
‘It would be unfortunate if the fog of bad publicity from Naomi Campbell’s cigarette budget drifted far enough to help a government shut down charities whose work it found politically inconvenient.’
