There was no 'official' No Kings rally scheduled in my community today but the town square was filled with protesters (patriots) this morning. So proud of my town, neighbors, and others across the nation.

At a previous appointment, students came by my office to discuss how Obama was using black helicopters to spy on us, empty Walmarts were surrounded by barb wire & connected by tunnels to house 'patriots', & Jade Helm 15 was end game for the country. When I challenged that I was called a 'sheeple'.

Joined a few people at the Hillsborough court house today. All seemed pretty friendly and motivated.
Odd (maybe not so odd) how people on Twitter are saying that the No Kings events are a flop.

I have my students compare economic theories, e.g. Adam Smith, Marx,Veblen, Polanyi. Most students align with Smith. Peter Navarro was on This Week today saying China took 60K of our factories, 5M of our jobs, & they have to stop being a predator country. Not exactly the Smith position on economics.

I love it when current events align with my assignments. The final paper in the Econ & Society class asks "Is the two-tiered economy necessary for contemporary society or is it counter to classical and neoclassical economic theory? Support your argument with the readings from the semester."

IA ranks #2 in cancer rates & this bill is intended to put a dent into that. Yes, skin cancer is a problem but what about smoking, drinking, farm chemicals, water quality, radon, & so much more in IA. Would @ Gov. Reynolds & IA GOP but they're not on bsky.

Minors wouldn’t be allowed to use indoor tanning beds unless they have parental permission, under a bill passed out of the Iowa House Monday.

I use this image as the banner on my Economy & Society course. Sad that it continues to be relevant, even more so today.

Re-watched 'Good night, and good luck'. Haven't seen it in a while. If I teach the Media in Society class again I'll include this & have the students discuss the relevance of the theme regarding media & and how Murrow's argument may relate to social media today.

The avg. age of this group is 67. Would be higher but for the youngsters Fetterman, Gillabran, Schatz (in their 50s). I'm from the end of the boomer gen and near this age range but it is time for a change of guard.

Throughout the entire Biden administration many banking CEOs and economists (Lawrence Summers, Jamie Dimon, et al) said that we will soon have a recession. Odd that we haven't heard from them lately but we seem really close now.

In my Orgs. & Bureaucracy class yesterday we talked about all that we've read this semester showing that bureaucracy is efficient & the best way to run large orgs. We'll be watching the DOGE experiment as it challenges all the previous scholarship. Thanks for the teaching moments.

I never thought I would see the day when I would go out for breakfast and see all the omelettes listed at "Market Price".

Constructed my Organizations & Bureaucracies class well before the election. Nearly every reading for the students say that dismantling bureaucracy & hiring based on cronyism, favoritism, & nepotism is destructive to large organizations. Plenty of teaching moments are being provided this semester.
All federal workers will shortly receive an email asking what they did last week — and that if employees fail to respond, it will be taken as a resignation, Elon Musk wrote in a post on X Saturday.

Watching the press briefing today has me digging out my copy of Orwell's 1984 to re-read and watching V for Vendetta again tonight.

So many stories of airplane tragedies. I talk with the flight crew whenever I fly to ask about what they like about their jobs. These people are often unappreciated but they are professionals and first responders. Make sure to thank flight attendants and pilots every time you fly.
