Hi there! I'm the friend in question.
I'm so glad these fine folks are working for the future of Sammamish and Washington State. We need to build smart to reduce climate impacts, to make sure all our people have places to live, and to make sure our cities have revenue to thrive.
Please vote for them in upcoming elections!

I will never shut up about how wonderful the WSRA is. Every time we're together, it's the nicest, most fun, most dedicated group of people who are all working to make our solid waste system work better.

Here are some examples of contamination.
Lots of plastic, staples, bits of Styrofoam.
BTW, while they CAN separate out plastic windows in envelopes and the adhesive on post-it notes and packing tape and staples, they beg you not to put them in the recycling bin in the first place.

Back when recycling was single-stream collection (aka you set out a separate bin full of only paper to recycle), plants like this could make paper with 40% recycled content. Now, with the amount of plastic contamination in recycling, that's down to 15-20%.

To make one of these giant, 18 foot wide rolls off paper, it takes roughly an entire semi-truck load full of wood chips.

Had a great time tabling with these fine human beings from @eastsideurbanism.org and @completestreetsbellevue.org at the Bellevue College Earth Market yesterday. We were out there talking about transit and housing and their benefits for sustainability.

Holy wow, that is the most antagonistic letter I have seen from a government official.
Sadly, I expect it will only get worse as we go...
