We were told to save this, so I did. Re-post and share!

Okay, here are my images. I have annotated them using alt text.

Herewith my favorite illustrations by N.C.Wyeth. Imagine walking round a corner and meeting those fellows in the first image!

He illustrated Westerns that showed his mastery of horseflesh was as good as that of the human figure.

But these two are my favorites. I don't own the books they come from, so I can't identify them, but they are peak storyteller!

His illustrations for Treasure Island (pub. 1911) made him famous, and thereafter he had his choice of illustration projects: Robin Hood, Rip Van Winkle, The Last of the Mohicans, Deerslayer, and more. He also illustrated ads, articles, and zine covers. (4/5)

Nearly all his illustrations were oil paintings, and he painted quite quickly. And they tell stories. Not just because they're WITH the story; they draw you into imagining the story. Read along and see what I mean.

His 5 children include Andrew Wyeth (much better known than his father) and Henriette, who married noted American artist Peter Hurd. Henriette was also an accomplished artist, but her works are chiefly found in a small museum in San Patricio, NM. (2/5)

N.C.Wyeth (1884-1945) is the most wonderful artist and illustrator you never heard of, and this is a thread to introduce you to his work. I depend heavily on alt-texting to describe the art work I included. (1/5)

This pic of a telescope fish has been on my tablet for years because of the expression on its face.

Not my cat, not my dude, just an irresistible screen grab from Facebook several years ago.

Early watercolor, Lincoln, NM. It's quite tight, in that I made everything detailed all over the painting (right to the horizon) instead of just the foreground. But I still like how the colors came out. I think I caught the light.

I had five much-loved cats, but I also loved my furniture 😄
Have you considered something like this?

Time back way back, we were taught that one never writes headlines where more than 3 nouns are concatenated. Seeing 4 used was a reason to laugh and point.
Well, have a look at this!

Right, one either apprenticed to a commercially successful painter or spent time with art masterpieces if they lived in a European capital city. A lot of colonial art is really naive.

AS IT HAPPENS, my Wikipedia rabbit hole was the guy who posed for Ivan's son in this painting by Ilya Repin. Vsevolod Garshin was the model. Here's Garshin's portrait, painted by ... Repin.

What's your favorite black & white movie?

I didn't realize until I looked it up that it was directed by Richard Lester!

Katherine Hepburn described Christopher Reeve as a tall, skinny bean pole during their stage production, A Matter of Gravity. He worked out like hell for Superman.
