I feel like the new EO has a lesson about tariffs

I've convinced myself that Sonic would look stretched out. Since he's moving, by the time the light from his back gets to his front, he has covered some distance. That will make him appear stretched out. His observed length, Lobs, and his measured length, L, are related by Lobs = L / ( 1 - v )

When I made a spacetime diagram it makes me think his length, inferred by the eyesight of an observer from light leaving Sonic’s front and back, would be longer than his proper length. Can someone help clarify this for me and a curious nine year old? Thanks! (3/3)
