The Habitable game is officially complete!🎉
From a mere idea to a finished product, it has been an incredible journey filled with excitement, hard work and dedication.🔭

Our PhD student @vince-bronner.bsky.social has produced this beautiful work on simulating common envelopes with MESA. With this method, these notoriously difficult calculations can be easily completed on a laptop! They can reproduce the results of 3D simulations arxiv.org/abs/2311.06332 🔭

3/4 In this paper arxiv.org/abs/2311.07278 by fellow postdoc Dandan Wei, we found that circumbinary disks that form around post common envelope binaries can play a crucial role in determining the final separation of stars, and the formation of gravitational-wave mergers! 🔭

Did you ever wonder what physical mechanisms bring stars in binary systems into contact? In this 1st PhD paper of
@janhenneco.bsky.social we identified these mechanisms by looking at no less than 6000 MESA models! 🔭

1/4 I'm incredibly proud of our MSc student
@duresatemaj.bsky.social for this work on understanding the effect of interior mixing (overshooting) on the fate of stars. She found that black hole progenitors always have the same luminosity and that mixing cannot explain the missing RSG problem 🔭
My first author paper on Convective core-overshooting on the final fate of massive stars is accepted for publication in A&A: arxiv.org/abs/2311.05701 🔭
We found that black hole progenitors have specific luminosity and CO core masses at the end of core carbon burning. 🌌💫

It's papers day! In the past week, a series of great papers by members of our Stellar Evolution Theory group at
HITS has appeared that I would like to highlight. The topics range from what brings stars into contact to understanding their final fate. 🔭

We are very happy to announce that the "Habitable" game will be available online from October 25th.
You can play the game with your friends and try to make your planets habitable and keep them habitable. 🌍🔭🌌

Share this with your friends with whom you will play the Habitable game :)
