I've spent 32 years of my working life in academia as a faculty member, Dean, and Vice President. My hobbies and avocations have included astrophotography, writing, music, high fidelity audio, sailing and boating, beer-making, and travel.
I pursued astrophotography as a hobby until 2009 and spent loads of time and money. Then life changed and I stopped, but for Christmas I got a SeeStar S50 portable telescope/imager. $500! Simple to use. It took me years before I took an image as good as what the S50 did out of the box.
