So much! Granted you can learn most anything on your own, the facility and opportunity of a structured and well funded Biology BS program allows one to learn practical lab, computational, and theoretical skills that an English BA will not provide.

Turing's visionary paper didn't just solve a mathematical problem; it unveiled a world of infinite possibility, where the boundaries of computation are defined only by our imagination.

From our modern perspective, Turing's work might seem almost self-evident, but it was revolutionary in 1936. His insights bridged the gap between abstract mathematics and practical computation, setting the stage for everything from the development of early computers to the #WorldWideWeb.

But Turing's universal machine was more than a theoretical construct; it laid the foundation for the concept of an algorithm. The Turing machine became a model for how computers process information, leading to the realization that anything computable can be computed by a universal machine.

The paper didn't merely present a novel idea; it addressed a fundamental question in #mathematics known as the Entscheidungsproblem, or decision problem. Turing demonstrated that some mathematical problems are undecidable, or cannot be solved by any #algorithm.

This 'machine' consisted of a tape divided into squares, a head that could read and write symbols, & a set of rules to guide its operation. Though simple in design, Turing's machine could simulate any other machine, perform any computation, & even mimic human thought to solve mathematical problems.

Turing's idea was both abstract and brilliant. He conceived of a theoretical device, capable of performing any calculation that could be described by simple instructions written on paper. If you could write it, it could do it!

The year was 1936, and a young British #mathematician named Alan Turing was about to alter the course of technology forever. In his #groundbreaking paper "On Computable Numbers, with an Application to the Entscheidungsproblem," Turing introduces us to the Turing machine.

E=mc²: The iconic equation that changed our understanding of energy and mass forever! ⚡️ Energy (E) is equal to mass (m) times the speed of light (c) squared. Mass and energy are interchangeable! #MassEnergyEquivalence #IconicEquation (of course those transformations are lossy & increase #entropy)

Lorentz Transformations: Switching frames of reference? Use Lorentz transformations! 🔄 Einstein's equations relate coordinates and times between different observers, accounting for relativistic effects. #LorentzTransformations #SpecialRelativity

Relativity of Simultaneity: Simultaneous events aren't always the same for all observers! ⚛️ Einstein's special relativity introduces the idea that simultaneity is relative to your frame of reference. #TimeIsRelative #SpecialRelativity

Length Contraction: Lengths are relative too! When objects move at high speeds, they appear shorter to observers. 📏 Einstein's equation for length contraction: L' = L √(1 - v^2/c^2) #SpecialRelativity #LengthContraction
July 15, 2023 at 10:19 PM
Time Dilation: In Einstein's theory of special relativity, time is relative! ⏱️ The time dilation factor (γ) shows that time slows down for objects moving close to the speed of light. 🚀 #Einstein #SpecialRelativity #TimeDilation

Initially met with skepticism, the growing evidence strengthened support for Einstein's #ideas which would become mainstays of #ModernPhysics. They shattered the existing paradigm, ushering in a new, elegant #universe woven with relativity. #ScientificRevolution

Einstein's audacious postulate challenged centuries of accepted wisdom, replacing absolute entities with a #cosmos that was strange, fluid, and relative, setting the stage for a new chapter in #TheoreticalPhysics where time dilates, space contracts, governed by the equivalence of mass & energy E=mc²

In 1905, a young physicist, Albert #Einstein, penned a seminal paper that would redefine our perception of reality. "On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies" introduced the world to the special theory of #relativity, merging space with time and declaring the speed of light as a universal constant.
