The Horse Head and Flame nebula. Just under 1,400 light years away from earth. The gas behind the horse head is ionized by the bright star Sigma Orionis, the left most star of Orion's belt. The flame nebula is illuminated by a star cluster inside of it. #astrophotography

The Andromeda Galaxy. 150,000 light-years across and 2.5 million light-years away from our Milky Way. It is set to collide with our galaxy in a few billion years. If you could see it with your naked eye, it would appear to be larger than the full moon in the sky.
