Out tomorrow: Why do states bring cases to the ICJ - even when there’s no jurisdiction? @drnajimagi.bsky.social helps run though the current caseload. Plus with the genocide cases against Myanmar and Israel, are states trying to be useful or just delaying when they make additional interventions?

There are very rare wins for survivors and activists in the current climate. Uplifting to see the establishment of an independent investigative mechanism for #Afghanistan following over 4.5 years of advocacy by Afghan & international civil society. Unsurprisingly, the US has always been opposed.

Rawadari welcomes the establishment of the independent investigative mechanism on Afghanistan that will collect evidence of international crimes and most serious violations of international law.

My country is made offline and for tens of thousands of young women who connected to learning, to hope, to community, to aspirations through Internet, all of that is gone by the orders of a small group of tyrannical, fearful men. #Afghanistan

Link to the IIMM report. Extensive list of entire villages destroyed to make way for large Border Guard Police compounds, leaving it impossible for those villages to be rebuilt. Clearly shows targeted destruction of #Rohingya villages (intent). iimm.un.org/sites/defaul...

It's a really interesting report, because it focuses on property destruction (i.e. not killing), & the important role this crime plays in #genocide. Tatmadaw has used the #law to prevent #Rohingya from reclaiming their land, just like the Ottoman Turks & Nazis did for Armenians & Jews.
