Back when Twitter was Twitter, I met tons of writers and editors and made connections within the #writingcommunity through pitch contests. Today, half the amazing authors in my international online writers group are folks I met through Twitter. I never would have imagined that was possible. 🥹😔

Best thing that happened this week is that SCARLET MORNING, the next kidlit bestseller #MG #fantasy, came out AND @gingerhaze.bsky.social came to our weird lil beach town and made my kiddo's day by signing her Horde pin.

AND she got to introduce him. 💜😭

My 6th grader is studying ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Rome & Greece.

We've got Greece covered (plenty of Percy Jackson), but can you suggest some great #MG fiction that would provide a launching pad for these topics?

When I'm anxious, I often stray to social media for a mental palate cleanser, to think about something else.

However, social media rarely offers a respite.

I think I'm going to take a short break, because I'd rather direct my energy toward writing, my kiddo, my community, and healthy practices. 🧡

Wow. Has anyone else read this? Such a trip.

Many of my MCs are unhoused or close to it, so this book drew me right in. If anyone is looking for a conclusive ending, you won't find it here. But it will suck you into its delirious spell.

I was 24 years old on the morning that I heard my 21-year-old niece had died on a plane crashing into a field for political reasons I barely understood at the time.

Thus began a period of grief and turmoil and transformation in my family that never really ended.

I suppose that's why many YA novels are written with multiple perspectives. Like Ember in the Ashes, which I think does a great job in the first person with 2-3 POVs 😊

I can go either way with MG, but I especially like first person with YA. First person present tends to be my preference because I enjoy the level of intimacy and urgency. #kidlitchat

Final word count of THE MYTHOS GAME after the "big" revisions: 94K.

Now I get to fine-tune it. 🎉

In recent conversations with an author and an agent, I heard 80K-95K was a good amount right now for querying YA speculative. So, I think I'm in a pretty good spot.

There are many echoes of current events, but I realized my MC's relationships with friends, LI, and siblings reflect my own. Also, my MC is angry, and I can relate! 😅
