There are four types of radiation primarily observed in nuclear power. Alpha - caused by the decay of large atoms like uranium. Beta - caused by the decay of smaller atoms. Gamma - caused by the de-excitation of decayed atoms as they reach the ground state. Neutron - nuclear fission of large atoms.

All of matter is made of molecules. Molecules are made of multiple atoms that are bound together. Atoms are made of 3 subatomic particles consisting of the Proton, the Neutron and the Electron.

Protons and Neutrons are bound together and make up the nucleus of the atom. Electrons orbit the nucleus.

Radiation is the transfer of energy through a solid, liquid or gas medium, or vacuum.

Radiation is emitted as a particle or an electromagnetic wave.

Radiation is defined as being ionizing or non-ionizing based on its energy level, which determines its ability to strip an electron from its atom.
