Say what you will about the social issues, at least Total Recall the *company* provided an actual service that was an impressive feat of science, requiring actual research and working tech. Not a *good* service, but they did a good job at it (mostly).

I just never imagined a dystopia so *lazy*... 😔

One step away from it auto-supplying more interesting 'memories' when it searches and finds your life lacking.

I have some questions about what appears to be a mini carnival funhouse prison exclusively made of patio doors.

But not, let me emphasize NOT, a double-door entrance. That would be ludicrous.

Two completely separate doors on the same wall between the same rooms.

Some of those conservative parents could use being reached with a good shake. Or a slap.

How often alleged 'overreach' turns out to actually be well within reach, in the clearly defined reach-rules, exactly where it was asked to reach a few decades prior because of the Avoidable Horrors that ensue when there's no one bothering to reach... 🙃

But I really appreciate how you've worded your reply, especially your second paragraph. I wish I could have conversations like this in person but almost everyone I know personally who cares is also isolated/home-bound due to health risks from the uncaring public. 🫤

I take rideshares to appointments a LOT, and mask every time (and am visibly disabled), and I have yet to see more than ONE driver wear a mask (the one guy saw me coming down the sidewalk and hastily put one on, bless him). I consider it a win when they at least preemptively roll the windows down. 😑

This is what makes me lose my mind whenever I encounter someone working in healthcare that is anti-vax or similar - like you are experiencing this every day, or at least around colleagues experiencing it every day, how do you just discard that like it's meaningless next to your social media feed??
December 5, 2025 at 6:44 PM
I remember being deeply, deeply perplexed by the handful of people who seemed to view the HPV vaccine as this controversial/unethical overreach by healthcare? i think it was definitely a Christian thing (I'm not Christian, but it was a Christian school), but I didn't understand the reasoning at all.

Ha! fair. the serious part of the question though was just that i don't want to inadvertently sound like I'm trolling someone.

fairly benign, if mischievous, stances can get caught up in the hate machine, but I'm not online enough to realize it until i hit a tripwire with a silly little moment. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Henry Cavil has a certain innate talent for "i walk a lonely road but damn do i look good doing it", and i love that for him and for us.

I'm peripherally aware of this but which side is considered trolling, the side saying it is or the side saying it isn't? 🤨
December 5, 2025 at 6:16 PM
"explain the gaps" well the Darkness took me and I strayed out of thought and time, every day was long as the life age of earth, etc etc. but I've always used my time away to really reflect on the human condition.

greatest strength? delegation.

greatest weakness? uhh... delegation. and heights.

... is it you? In what world would a bot write what i wrote? 🤨

Elaf the Bone-Farmer at least puts in honest work to create a tangible product, and is objectively less evil than any tech startup CEO, thankyouverymuch.

Why do these look like set design instructions for "ok now to contrast with the gritty squalid commonfolk, we need something that says 'my entire soul is governed like an apple store' but without the warmth of those wood tables to confuse people"
"maybe no furniture, boss?"
"no furniture. perfect."

In this instance (though I'm working entirely from unscientific memory), I believe sweet potatoes have a significant amount of natural latex-y fluid and while that might not be as much like burnt rubber to normally be noticeable, maybe in the absence of the 'sweet' smell it's coming through clearer?
November 20, 2025 at 9:53 PM
I have a theory, from one or two similar experiences, that the links aren't scrambled (i.e. 'mistaking' computer for sweet potato) but that because we normally lack nuanced scent analysis, as different receptors come back we are newly aware of elements typically flattened under the dominant ones.
