America is home to the top 5 weapon manufacturers (Lockheed, RTX, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, General Dynamics) and spends around 1 trillion dollars in defense annually. There's a financial incentive by the state to keep public opinion of weapons if not high, then neutral via constant desensitization
