The homes of urban fantasy monsters and characters do so much quiet storytelling and worldbuilding. Orcs have special smoking racks for bones to crack. Lizardfolk have counter top meat fermentation pots. Centaurs have low and slopped beds to lay down and lean their torsos on. #Writingcommunity

Most romantasy treats culture as decoration—fancy gowns, exotic food, maybe one taboo for spice.

But ask who can wear what, who can eat what, who can touch whom, who can pleasure whom.

Material conditions, not aesthetic details, create depth.

Fog on playground deep and thick
Freezes on metal locked in place.
I am inside, like a tick.
How I long to run and give chase
To run and play on that cold place.

Yet I am firmly stuck
In a job I Can't buck
So I watch without luck.
