Years later we visited our favourite "Indian" restaurant. Most Indian restaurants are Bangladeshi owned.

The restaurateur told us that four long haired white people had sat at a table previously. He recognised them as skinheads of old who'd smashed his window.

I was going to take one of them down with me. The fight soon spread across the whole of the Fair that night with the Greeks and BPP on one side and some non-Greek white students on the other.

When we first went to Staines, white people used to stop and stare.

I joined Royal Holloway (and Bedford New College), in 1985.

Some white students used to stare at Black People and POC (BPP) students back then.

I don’t know how. I suppose it does, in fact I’m sure it affects my perspective. I think that the fact that I’m 59 years old probably affects my perspective more than my reputation.

Most white people in any predominantly white country are racist.

The same way I treasure my elders and defer to them, I prefer to defer to Black Natives on race issues specific to the USA whenever I can. They have more detailed insight and lived experience than non-Black natives can provide on our own. We need those voices. Critically.

never let them be erased from history. Afro-indigenous people are blessed with a tremendous connection to so many important areas of our growth as a species; I learn so much from Black Natives and I cherish their insight into indigenous issues *so much*
