What’s wildest to me is that one can easily read it as “everyone else has been freaking out about my arrest but Donald has be suspiciously calm [almost like he is did something to avoid consequence]“ The fact that the Rs haven’t pushed that angle is another oddly silent dog.

It’s also entirely self defeating. If the people who did not vote with you last time are irredeemable, then there’s no one you could possibly build a winning coalition with. There are some people you won’t ever win over but if you’re really right, you’ll win over enough decent people if you connect
