I've spent my life in the southern USA, but my people aren't from around here.
Older than the Pope.
It's okay, honey. Still *way* down the scale from Anne Lamott admitting she has thoughts that "make Jesus drink gin straight out of the cat dish.”

Flashback! Around 1960, my mom wore a cotton "cocktail hostess apron" that was very, very similar to this print. (Arranged as a border print, on a solid black ground, with the border placed at the hem of the full, gathered apron, of course.)

Doesn't it sound like a restorative way to spend a week?
(A few days on a Hurtigruten coastal ship is already a rare pleasure, and this sounds like a delightful group... www.youtube.com/results?sear... )

Did you notice that Arne & Carlos have been doing travel for knitters? The description of their Hurtigruten cruises of the Norwegian coast sounds like a lovely daydream! arnecarlos.com/journeys/

...the NAUGHTY children were off limits to the Cat. Those were stuffed into a bag and toted off for Mother Grylla to eat herself.

Hence the threat of the Jólakötturinn! If a child was too lazy to do their share of the work, then their new clothes might not be ready to wear by Christmas (before the winter storms really got fierce). The Yule Cat was delegated to eat the LAZY children...

Children learned to knit at a young age. Here, Chrissie Cheyne, 3 years old, pauses in her knitting to pet a cat. This was taken in 1930's in Shetland - different Northern islands, but with some overlap in economy and culture.

We've forgotten some context.

On isolated farms in the old days, clothes were made at home. It took everybody's work to make yarn from raw wool, and then to knit the garments. New winter clothes for adults and children required lots of labor. Even very small children needed to contribute...

It's a household safety measure!
(And might increase the frequency of summer pies?)

(Sorry, I'm late to the party... I'd love to know what set of patterns you're using for these. Are they from a KAL series? I love working at that gauge, and this is less commitment than a pair of socks!)

I am too clumsy to be around pie weights.

Santa may need to bring me one of these. Looks like it'd be easier to clean (without dropping anything down the drain). Not to mention, less of a mortal peril if dropped on the floor.
