I study when I have nothing better to do at work. Usually I'll think of something one of my characters would say, look up how it would be said in Japanese and deconstruct it.

In Japanese the proper way to denote a question is to end a sentence with the particle か (ka). It's not exactly equivalent to a question mark it's a marker to indicate that something is uncertain or unknown, but because it can sound harsh in casual conversation a question mark is often used instead!
