Fantastic time on our field course to Freiburg & Black Forest (Germany) this week, looking at sustainable mobilities, human-nature relationships, and coexistence with a lynx reintroduction case study.

Using only low carbon transport, we saved 86% of CO2e compared to flying.

Excited for next year!

Beautiful day in #Cornwall, sighting #chough, bottlenose #dolphin, and a #humpback #whale!

En route to a writing retreat, a privileged opportunity to develop my post-PhD thinking around human-wildlife interactions in #reintroductions.

And it's off to a beautiful start, with views of my local estuary from the train window

A very good trip to Liverpool for #BES2024, and great to have chance to present our recent #wildcat work. Thank you to those who came and @britishecolsoc.bsky.social for organising

On the train to Liverpool for #BES24 with @uoe-creww.bsky.social colleagues!

I'll be presenting Friday on the social feasibility of #wildcat #reintroduction in the south west - see you there?

Enjoyed the Bearded #Capuchin using tails to access water in trees in this week's #Mammals.

I was privileged in 2019 to record, for the first time, White-faced Capuchin doing so at an open water source - we think as predator-avoidance...

Happy #EarthDay!

This year, we marked the occasion by completing the return home to Devon from #EGU24 Conference in Vienna - through Austria, Germany, France and Belgium - by rail!

As well as being easy and comfortable by #rail, we estimate using the #train saved 14.788 tonnes of CO2e! #LowCarbonFieldTrips

(Calculated using http://gov.uk ghg conversion factors 2023, flight distance 867km, for 42 students and 5 staff)

In Freiburg, we looked at #BehaviourChange, #Mobility and #SustainableCities.

Then at Lake Titisee we explored (renewed) #Coexistence with #Wildlife.

(We were lucky with the weather, experiencing both warm spring sunshine and snowfall)

Last week, we had the privilege of taking 42 final-year @ExeterGeography students to Freiburg & the Black Forest (Germany) for the new #Environmental Futures field course.

To get there, we used only #LowCarbon #transport (no flights!)

This month I've a new rail commute that takes me along the #Exe Estuary, so I started a commuting #bird list.

Today I reached 20 species from seven daylight journeys, including #Spoonbill! See evidence shot taken with my phone this morning

Today, @MayorofLondon helped to release five beavers into an enclosure in West London, for @CitizenZoo and @WildlifeEaling's beaver project.
It will be fascinating to see next how local people engage and respond in this urban setting

Mindblown by the last week! Beautiful 15km swim between the #IslesofScilly in the #ScillySwimChallenge, followed by my first #Minke #Whale en route back to the mainland aboard the #Scillonian! When can I go back?
