Second, even if you had political will, the logistical challenge of getting rid of the existing guns in the US is *almost* insurmountable. A few people above have done the math.

More than 50% of the population owns a gun, and in some areas that’s closer to 70+%. So coming in with “ban all guns” is instantly going to make you unelectable. Even in more liberal states it loses dems a ton of votes.

I also wish we didn’t have militarized law enforcement. Being independently wealthy with no obligations also sounds nice while we’re at it.

First, is it possible to have better gun control in the US? Probably, but you need political will there and it’s not there. It hasn’t been there my whole life.

Completely on point. Liberal gun owner here. I grew up around firearms hunting, didn’t own for probably 20 years, and now own again.

I have a few thoughts on the issue. First, do I wish we lived in a less gun-crazy country? Absolutely. There are far too many firearms than is reasonable per capita.
