Same happened to me! I was confused because someone personated you to get me 😢 I’m glad you’re OK. I backed up my account too

If I do manage to somehow get my old account back, then I will delete this backup

Do not accept invites to discord from your DMs!

I just don’t like Discord. They can even see what you are doing on your phone screen! Well. I certainly learned something today. Scams are getting a lot more sophisticated. It was preying on my fear of being jailed and fined and they were also very personable and understanding.

I had someone attempt this scam with me yesterday (with your old account, which seems to be gone.)

I took screenshots of the conversation and reported it to the bluesky support team's email rather than go through discord like they wanted. Haven't heard back yet. I'm so sorry this happened to you!

Kind of like imitating customer service. And even saying things like they respect your privacy and that. Too bad my trauma survival instincts didn’t kick in lol I care too much about my Bsky account and the platform I have built up. I was so happy to have a place for my writing… a community…

Anyway. Just be wary, of course. The scammers also take you to PayPal (Xoom) and make it so the transaction is one-way and you can’t get a refund or even report it as scam and get your money back. Super slimy. I just locked my debit cards before, but this is impossible to combat.

And why prey on me? When my accounts are negative and they can see that? Lol I’m surprised they didn’t bounce the second they saw on the shared screen that I’m broke as heck. Try scamming some famous oligarchs. Then you’ll get more than some pennies someone needs to literally survive

Everyone be on the look out for someone impersonating Matt Reeder or BlueSky support on Discord. Saying your account has fraud charges on it and that you need to buy your account back or else go to prison. Don’t be like me and get anxious at threats of jail and fines.

I contacted Blue Sky support and I hope I can get back in my account. In the meantime, just be wary and careful. Scammers are getting more sophisticated these days

Otaku, circa 1983 onward *kinda* fits in this list of terms that people who might be Autistic might otherwise be called and then having other people decades later wondering

"Where did all of these Autistic people suddenly come from" ...

But there is a lot of cultural context in the term.
