With a lot of planning! I made sure I mapped out the house, and had timelines for every character, the night of the murder, including their locations, possible motives, and red herrings. It was tricky, but I think it worked out well! Definitely has an Agatha Christie vibe.

It’s funny you ask that, because six months ago I would have said I am a plotter. But lately I have found that I have plotted myself into being boring. Lol. So I threw out some of my outline and I’m winging it. I’m back to having fun and the mystery is still working. Win-win!

Yes! I’m working on the next installment in the River Sutton mysteries. It takes place in the spring, since my other books take place in the summer, fall, and winter. It’s fun exploring which spring holidays and activities I’m going to include and how they wind up as part of the mystery.

I really love the sense of community and the quirky characters. That’s what I really love about the cozy mysteries that I’ve devoured over the years. Reading a series is so satisfying because you get to know the characters like they’re your best friends. The same as true in writing!

Yes! It can be read as a standalone, too. I loved writing that one because I had so much fun with creating decor and Christmas activities and Christmas meals. It has a bit of a locked door vibe, too.

Roadside Homicide, the first full novel in the River Sutton mysteries. Robin, our amateur sleuth, comes back to her small town for her sister‘s wedding. But she nearly runs over a man who stumbles into the road, dying. She promises him to carry a message which leads her into the investigation.

That’s a tough question! I think reading Nancy drew novels when I was a girl inspired me to want to write my mysteries. I wanted to see if I could create a puzzle and lead my readers through it without giving away the answer until the end. They are so much fun to write!
