Recent comments in the media suggesting that paracetamol causes autism are not only scientifically unfounded, but also deeply damaging. Autism is a natural neurodevelopmental difference, not an illness caused by something parents did or did not do.

👉 Autistic people do not need a cure
👉 All Autistic lives are worth living
autisticparentsuk.bsky.social
The causes of autism are complex, and much of the rise in rates of diagnosis in recent years can be attributed to better awareness and identification of Autistic people.

Mental health difficulties are much more common in Autistic people than in non-autistic people. But mental illness is *not* a core feature of autism. So why are rates of mental illness so much higher in Autistic people, and what can be done to help?
