Went to Med School.

A mystery seized my heart
With my eyes wide open morning comes.
Dismay reigns my soul
In a world without sun
Wounded by doubt
Her devotion is all I need

Pondering about how light travels from the Sun, towards Earth. Scattering through the atmosphere, coming through a window, reaching my eyes. But that’s not all. Some gets reflected towards my phone screen, bounces back to my eyes & I see a white dot on my screen that isn’t really there. ✨Reflection‼️

There has been way to much Nazis this week in my life.

I wanted to distract me from real life but I find myself coming across them anyway.

From watching “The Producers” (2005)
to “Welcome to Marwen” (2018).

Can all those movies have a time off?
I love “Jojo Rabbit”, but right now I can’t even. 🤮

“Sunburn damages the DNA, leading to cell death and inflammation. But in this study we learn that this is a result of damage to the RNA, not the DNA that causes the acute effects of sunburn,” says Assistant Professor Anna Constance Vind from the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine
The ribotoxic stress response drives acute inflammation, cell death, and epidermal thickening in UV-irradiated skin in vivo
The acute skin reaction to sunburn, encompassing keratinocyte cell death, inflammation, and epidermal thickening, has traditionally been ascribed to DNA damage responses. Using a mouse model deficient...

Clinical obesity requires one or both of the following criteria: evidence of reduced organ or tissue function due to obesity; or substantial, age-adjusted limitations of daily activities reflecting the specific effect of obesity on mobility, other basic activities of daily living, or both.
Definition and diagnostic criteria of clinical obesity
Current BMI-based measures of obesity can both underestimate and overestimate adiposity and provide inadequate information about health at the individual level, which undermines medically-sound approa...

Scientists identify 177 specific genes that fuel cancer metastasis, and 2 key genes:
• SP1, which accelerates metastasis, and
• KLF5, which helps suppress it.

Challenging the long-held belief that metastasis mechanisms vary greatly between cancer types.
New insight: Scientists identify genes driving cancer spread

Researchers have discovered that including specific nutrients in a regular diet, such as antioxidants, vitamins, iron-chelating nutrients & polyunsaturated fatty acids, reduces iron buildup in the brain, lowers cognitive decline associated with normal aging, and improves memory.

There’re over 85 billion neurons in the brain, with 1/3 dedicated to high-level thinking & located in the cortex. Individual neurons are powerful information processors & can easily transmit more than 10 bits/s of information. But why don't they? Perhaps due to how our brains evolved.
The unbearable slowness of being: Why do we live at 10 bits/s?
Zheng and Meister write about the paradoxical slowness of human behavior. Although our senses gather data at 109 bits/s, our overall information throughput is only 10 bits/s. This stark contrast touches on many fundamental aspects of brain function.

Intermittent fasting slows hair regrowth in both humans and mice, experiments show.

“We’ve come to expect that fasting is going to be beneficial for most, if not all cell types. This is the inverse of what we expected, and the finding seems to hold true in humans.” says Ömer Yilmaz

Exercising for 30 minutes improves memory and cognitive performance for the day ahead and the day after, suggests a new study.
It suggested benefits could be down to an increased blood flow to the brain and stimulation of chemicals known as neurotransmitters.

The connection between a partner’s positivity and cortisol was especially strong in couples with higher relationship satisfaction and among older participants.
